Fan guard quality is more than visual appearance. The guard must fit the fan assembly, maintain safe spacing, resist deformation, and preserve its shape through welding, surface treatment, transport, and installation.
The most effective inspection plan checks quality at several stages. Finding an incorrect ring diameter before welding is faster and less expensive than rejecting a coated, packed guard.
Mark every characteristic that affects safety, assembly, appearance, and process stability. Classify the characteristics as critical, major, or routine according to the buyer's requirements and applicable product rules.
The inspection method must match the characteristic. Use calibrated measuring tools for dimensions, flat reference surfaces for distortion, dedicated gauges for repeated production checks, and defined mechanical tests for welded joints.
Before welding, check cut length, ring diameter, ring roundness, radial-wire length, bends, hooks, handles, and mounting features. In-process gauges can reduce inspection time when they are designed from approved drawings.
Record measurements after setup and at defined intervals. A gradual shift in ring diameter or cut length may indicate roller wear, feed slip, coil variation, or a setup change.

Inspect weld location, consistency, indentation, sharp edges, burn marks, missing welds, and visible separation. Cosmetic acceptance should be defined with approved samples because appearance changes after plating, painting, or powder coating.
Visual inspection cannot confirm strength by itself. Use a repeatable pull, bend, peel, or destructive test appropriate to the joint and agreed product requirement. Document the sample size, test method, acceptance limit, and reaction plan.
Before surface treatment, confirm that the guard is free from excessive spatter, sharp projections, oil, loose scale, and contamination. Verify that hooks, contact points, and drainage areas are suitable for the selected coating process.
After coating, inspect color, gloss where specified, coverage, adhesion according to the buyer's method, sharp edges, exposed metal, runs, particles, handling marks, and blocked mounting features.
A dimensional result can be acceptable while the guard still fails assembly. Periodically fit the guard to the actual housing, mating guard, motor support, clips, screws, or mounting frame.
Confirm blade clearance, fastening position, stability, alignment, and ease of assembly. If front and rear guards are paired, inspect them as a set.
Define first-piece, patrol, final, and shipment inspections. Increase inspection after material changes, tooling changes, maintenance, parameter changes, or repeated defects.
The reaction plan should state who stops production, how suspect material is identified, how far trace-back extends, who approves restart, and which records are retained.
A practical fan guard inspection system controls inputs, components, welded assemblies, coating readiness, final appearance, and functional fit. The goal is not to measure everything at the end; it is to detect drift before value is added to a defective part.
